THE TYPICAL MEETS THE ACTUAL
At the Central Market Booths
Florence’s Central Market has given life to a new space within the I Gigli shopping center in Campi Bisenzio: “Ai Banchi del Mercato Centrale”.
Located on the first floor of the mall, in an area of 2 thousand square meters, it houses 17 shops that offer typical Tuscan and Italian handcrafted products.
Various foods ranging from truffles to Sicilian delicacies, from Chianina hamburger to Chinese ravioli, are presented. The pizza counter, fresh pasta, ice cream parlor and many other stalls selling specialties, complete the offer.
The architectural project was taken on by the Florentine studio Q-bic, owned by brothers Luca and Marco Baldini, while each of the marble surfaces in the various shops were created by Pietre di Rapolano.
Some of the booths were made in Bardiglio, a gray Apuan marble, while others were made in Bianco Carrara. The two marbles, required by the designers, were the perfect choice for the type of work that had to be done: in fact, white and gray marble are the elements historically used for shop floors and tables.
Once the designers agreed on these materials, we starting from the blocks and the slabs obtained for them, and carried out the surveys on location in order to begin cutting the various stalls. The unavoidable deadlines for the delivery of the finished work imposed a rigorous and strict commitment: hundreds of people, coordinated by the architects, overlapped in frenetic activity, often even at night.
As the compartments were completed our technicians performed the reliefs that were passed into production, to then be assembled just a few hours later. The end result creates feelings of tranquility and familiarity: the job was quite intense but has given us great satisfactions.
